The A/B Test feature allows you to compare two consent banner configurations in real-world conditions to determine which achieves the best consent rate. It's a powerful tool for making data-driven decisions about the design and content of your banners.
⚠️ Prerequisites before you start
Enterprise plan only. This feature is exclusively available on Axeptio Enterprise plans.
Geolocation must be enabled. The A/B Test feature only works if Geolocation is enabled on your project. Without it, the test cannot be launched.
Available for Brands and Publishers banners. You can launch A/B tests on both types of banners.
Configurations must be online. Only configurations that are already active and published can be selected for an A/B test.
A configuration can only be part of one active test at a time. It is not possible to include the same configuration in multiple A/B tests simultaneously.
Multiple tests can be launched in parallel. You can run multiple A/B tests simultaneously, as long as each configuration is involved in only one test at a time.
Where to find the A/B Test feature
Once in your project, go to the left sidebar menu and click on A/B Test.
Create a new A/B Test campaign
Click on New A/B Test campaign to access the configuration page. Setup takes place in 3 steps.
Step 1 – Choose your country, regulation, and language
Select the country, regulation (for example GDPR, CCPA), and language in which you want to launch the test. This is a crucial step: you can only compare banners configured under the same country/regulation/language combination.
Step 2 – Select 2 configurations
You must select exactly 2 existing banner configurations to launch the test. Both configurations must:
Be currently published
Be of the same type (Brands or Publishers — it is not possible to mix the two)
Use the same language and regulation
Not already be part of another active A/B test
⚠️ Important: Once the A/B test is running, neither of the two configurations can be modified. They are locked for the entire duration of the test to ensure the reliability of the results.
Step 3 – Define test options
Test duration
Choose how long the test will be active. Available options are:
1 week
2 weeks
1 month (recommended — allows you to collect a sufficiently large sample for statistically significant results)
Custom period — set specific start and end dates
By default, both banners will be displayed to visitors in approximately equal proportions throughout the test.
Receive a notification at the end of the test
Add one or more email addresses to be notified when the test is complete and results are available.
Launch the test
Once all steps are completed, click the Launch test button. The test starts immediately and runs for the duration you chose.
You can track the results directly from the A/B Test section of your project dashboard.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I modify my banners while the test is running? No. The two configurations involved in the A/B test are locked for the entire duration of the test. This ensures that the comparison remains valid and that results are not skewed by changes during the test.
Can I launch a test between a Brands banner and a Publishers banner? No. A/B tests can only be performed between banners of the same type (Brands versus Brands, or Publishers versus Publishers).
Can I launch multiple A/B tests at the same time? Yes. You can run multiple A/B tests simultaneously, as long as each configuration is included in only one active test at a time. A configuration already engaged in a running test cannot be added to another.
What happens if Geolocation is not enabled? The A/B Test feature will not be available. You must first enable Geolocation in your project settings.
