Availability: Pay or Consent is an option of the TCF Widget (Publishers). You can only access it from a Publishers banner: the settings section described below does not exist in standard Cookies widgets.
1. What is Pay or Consent for?
Pay or Consent (also called Consent or Pay) is an access banner that gives visitors two clear choices to access your site:
Accept cookies → access stays free, but the visitor's data is shared for personalized advertising.
Subscribe (pay) → access is granted without cookies/tracking, through a subscription.
(And, for an already-subscribed visitor: log in to access the content directly.)
Who is it for? Publishers and media websites. Their business model depends on advertising or subscription revenue, so a simple consent wall isn't always enough. Pay or Consent ensures a usable outcome whatever the visitor chooses: either cookies are dropped, or subscription revenue is generated.
Axeptio's approach stays educational, clear and simple: through short texts and illustrations, the visitor immediately understands the two options and makes an informed choice.
2. Configuring the banner, field by field
All settings are located in the "Consent or Pay setting" panel (on the right). Every value you enter is reflected immediately in the preview on the left.
2.1 Website name displayed
Interface label | Required | Purpose |
Website name displayed in the Pay or consent information | ✅ Yes | Your site/brand name as it appears in the banner's texts. |
If left empty, the interface shows "This field is required." and publishing is blocked.
2.2 Subscription price, currency and frequency
These three fields together build the price sentence the visitor sees (the "I pay €X…" line).
Label | Required | Description |
Displayed price | ✅ Yes | Amount the visitor must pay to access the site without accepting cookies. |
Currency | ✅ Yes | Currency (e.g. € - Euros). |
Frequency | ✅ Yes | Subscription period: per month, per week, per day… |
Enter a real price: a price of 0 produces an inconsistent sentence ("I pay €0.00 monthly") and strips the model of its meaning.
2.3 Advertising for subscribers
Label | Type | Description |
The website will not display any advertising if the user is subscribed | Toggle (OFF by default) | Indicates whether your site shows no advertising (even non-personalized) to subscribed visitors. Axeptio automatically adjusts the banner's text accordingly. |
Only enable it if it's true: if your subscribers still see advertising, leave it OFF.
2.4 Partial consent button
Label | Type | Description |
Display a partial consent button | Toggle (OFF by default) | Lets the visitor choose which cookies to accept and access the site without accepting all of them. |
2.5 Links to your pages (Log-in / Subscription)
These links power the buttons in the "Subscribe" column.
Label | Required | Purpose | Expected format |
Link to login page | ✅ Yes | Log-in page for an already-subscribed visitor. Wired to the Log-in button. | Full URL, e.g. |
Link to Subscription page | ✅ Yes | Page where visitors can subscribe. Wired to the Subscribe button. | Full URL, e.g. |
If the interface shows "The URL entered is invalid…", the protocol or domain is missing: enter the full URL (https:// + domain + path).
2.6 Resurfacing the banner (resurface the CMP)
Label | Required | Purpose |
Link title to resurface the CMP | ❌ No | Text of the link that lets the visitor reopen the cookie management window to change their choice (usually placed in the footer). |
2.7 Compliance options
The "Compliance options" section (at the bottom of the panel) groups the settings tied to your obligations, starting with the "Manage cookies" link to add to your website, so the visitor can withdraw consent as easily as they gave it.
3. Customizing the look
Like the Publishers CMP, Pay or Consent has its own graphic customization interface via "Customize the widget look" in the editor. The interface is streamlined to display only the elements that can actually be customized on this type of banner. Customization remains linked to your other Publishers configurations (overall visual consistency).
4. Tracking performance (Analytics)
The Pay or Consent banner introduces new buttons (Subscribe, Log-in), and therefore new metrics in your statistics:
A landmark placed on your existing graphs, marking the moment you switched to Pay or Consent (to situate before/after).
Subscribe and Connect rates: the share of visitors who subscribe or log in.
Consent distribution by device, adapted to the Pay or Consent format.
5. Checking and publishing
Publishing (the "Publish" button, top right) is only possible if all required fields are valid.
Pre-publish checklist:
Activate Consent or Pay feature set to ON
Website name filled in
Displayed price > 0, Currency and Frequency correct
Link to login page = valid full URL
Link to Subscription page = valid full URL
"No advertising if subscribed" toggle consistent with your actual offer
Preview reviewed (the price sentence must be accurate and readable)
Most common blocking errors:
Message | Field | Fix |
This field is required. | Website name | Enter the site name. |
The URL entered is invalid… | Link to login page | Enter |
The URL entered is invalid… | Link to Subscription page | Enter |
Any later change requires republishing to take effect.
