Create your first Brands configuration

Written by Alexandre Dias Da Silva

Now that you have created your Axeptio project and chosen a Brand banner type, you will be able to create your first configuration.

This step allows you to generate an initial version of your consent banner, ready to be displayed on your site.

What is a configuration?

In Axeptio, a banner can contain one or more configurations.

A configuration corresponds to a version of your consent banner.

It is defined by:

  • a regulation (for example GDPR)

  • a display language

A configuration then brings together the different banner screens, within which you will be able to define the services and cookies subject to consent.

This logic allows you to adapt the same banner to different contexts, for example:

  • a site available in multiple languages

  • a site present in multiple countries

  • or different regulatory obligations depending on the geographic area

👉 In the simplest case — a site in a single language, intended for a single country — a single configuration is more than sufficient.

This is what we will create in this guide.

â„č About terminology

In this getting started guide, we use the term configuration to refer to a version of your consent banner.

Depending on the context (administration interface, more technical documentation, or integration), you may also encounter the following terms:

  • cookiesVersion (name of the technical parameter used in Axeptio scripts)

  • version (of cookies)

These terms refer to the same concept: a variant of your banner, associated with a regulation and a language.

Create a new configuration

To create a new configuration:

  1. Go to your project, then to My banners

  2. Click the + New banner button in the top right

You will then access the configuration creation wizard.

Step 1: Select the country and regulation

Start by selecting the country targeted by your site.

Depending on the country chosen, Axeptio automatically suggests the most appropriate regulation.

For example:

  • France → GDPR

  • Switzerland → GDPR

  • Canada → corresponding local regulation

This suggestion is automatic, but it remains modifiable.

You can select a different regulation if your legal context requires it.

Step 2: Select the banner language

Next, select the display language of your banner.

This language corresponds to the one in which the banner texts will be displayed to your visitors.

👉 For a simple site in a single language, you just need to choose the main language of your site.

If your site is multilingual, you can later create other configurations, for example one configuration per language, in order to display a banner adapted to the visitor's browsing context.

This is not necessary to get started.

Step 3: Choose the creation mode

You must now choose how to create your configuration.

Two options are available.

Blank banner

This option allows you to start with an empty configuration.

You create and customize your banner manually, by adding the services used on your site yourself.

This mode is available for all accounts and is suitable if you want to maintain full control from the start.

Automated creation (Cookie scanner)

If your account has access to advanced features, you can choose automated creation.

In this case:

  • you give a name to the scan

  • you indicate the URL of the site to analyze

  • you provide an email address to be notified once the scan is complete

  • you can, if you wish, automatically apply your site's design to the banner

👉 When you click Create and customize, a scan of your site is automatically launched.

The scan analyzes a sample of pages to detect the services present and pre-populate your banner.

⏱ The scan typically takes 10 to 15 minutes.

📧 Once complete, a confirmation email is sent to the address you provided.

You can then view the new configuration created by going to Project > My banners.

This is the recommended option for a first configuration.

Finalize the creation

Once the configuration is created (immediately for a blank banner, or after the scan is complete for automated creation), you can move on to the next step to organize the content of your banner and verify the services associated with it.

What if you need multiple configurations?

In this getting started guide, we intentionally created a single configuration, in order to go straight to the point and allow you to quickly set up a first functional banner.

If your site has multiple versions (multilingual site, multiple countries, different variants of the same site, etc.), it may be worthwhile to create multiple configurations and automatically load the correct configuration based on the visitor's browsing context.
